Mandy Smith

The lesser known Mandy Smith

After Googling myself I was quite excited to learn about my marriage to Bill Wyman, my well earned rear of the year award and my pretty exciting musical career. But unfortunately that was all too good to be true.

There already is a more known Mandy Smith.

The stories my parents could share of me at 13 and my evolution from pencil crayon to acrylic are definitely not as rock and roll as Mandy Smith meeting her 47 year old future lover.

What I can say for myself is that I enjoy creating different elements and worlds for photos or film and have especially enjoyed manipulating paper.

I have worked for Wieden+Kennedy in both London and Amsterdam, 180, Universal Music Records and I am currently finishing my first animation.

It's no I just can't wait (boasting the other Mandy Smith a number 1 in Japan, 1994) but I still have the other half of my twenties to go, so here's hoping...

Thoughts from the studio

Working at Night

Whilst glimpsing Lord of the Rings on my laptop I'd like to say I could compare myself to having the beauty of the elves. I am not that lucky. Looking up from my desk I realized my brother from another mother was Gollum. Yes, the creature that sits hunched in a cave for years, talking to a ring. For most of my days I also sit crouched over and hardly moving. Granted a chair is slightly more appealing than a rock but if you were to film us both for 16 hours the likeness would be uncanny. Then that's the thing about models; sometimes you have to do the same thing for hours to get something seemingly small done. But by 4am I had made a nice array of balconies instead of achieving severe hair-loss, Mandy 1 Gollum 0.

DVDs

I can proudly add to my resumé that I now know the entire scripts of Friends (every season), Sex and the City (every season) and Harry Potter (every film they have ever released ever, so far). Sadly I wish I could also add an Independent black and white film to my list, but the truth is it lighthearted entertainment is an underrated asset. You laugh occasionally and when sat in a studio you don't always get to interact with other human beings. Hearing voices that aren't just in your head means you feel like you're still in touch with society, saving me from building a coconut out of paper. It's also quite good for timings, I built all my windows to lost Season 5.

Half Way House

and time to stop for a little break. doing a big project alone means I sometimes want to burn it. Not in an arty way but in a way of arson, to myself. After coming so far it can feel like it's taken everything from you. So instead of rushing the rest or doing something I might regret it's time for me to swim back to England. I can't reach the shredder from Liverpool.

The Power Song

When I hit a wall, there's only one thing that can get me going. It's time to pull out my head phones, crank up the volume, and get ready for...the power song. After reaching up and pulling down I know it's time to mean business. With chorus blazing not even a roast dinner being delivered on the flippers of Shamoo could stop me from working through the pain. Hello bricks. Thank you Earth Song.
